KEHRWA KANKU 2006
Experimental video shown as part of "Learning to be Indian" installation at Watermans, 2006.In this work I am looking at the tabla rhythm cycle called KEHRWA TAAL. This is a repeated 8 beat cycle. The movement of the bodies on these screens are instructed by the timing of this cycle and is marked out on the skin with the red pigment KANKU.
With the two screens I am looking to disect the seperate rhythms of the left and right drum. I am interested in this and any communication between two seperate elements. Left and right, front and back.
It is also important for these works to be shown at an appropriately large scale in order to physically take on board both the audio and visual sensory elements.
